The inner city park with the jumping buck display (see picture how it used to be in its original location) was a gift to the citizens of Johannesburg from the well known Oppenheimer family. After 1994 the whole park was vandalised becoming a toilet and a crime hot spot to such an extent that no one ever went there again. The jumping buck were cast in bronze and were cut up for scrap metal by vandals. The carcasses were saved and sent for restoration and placed in a monitored precinct in Main street for preservation. The original park itself literally became just another African sh*thole. Yes, No good deed in Africa will go unpunished.
