HM Queen Victoria

Picture from the movie the Young Victoria
Queen Victoria
"Today is my eighteenth birthday! How old! and yet how far am I from being what I should be. I shall from this day take the firm resolution to study with renewed assiduity, to keep my attention always well fixed on whatever I am about, and to strive to become every day less trifling and more fit for what, if Heaven wills it, I'm some day to be.
The courtyard and the streets were crammed when we went to the Ball, and the anxiety of the people to see poor stupid me was very great, and I must say I am quite touched by it, and feel proud, which I always have done, of my country and of the English nation."

Minister Richard Gush and Westering High School Algoa Bay Port Elizabeth

Richard Gush
Pastor Richard Gush (1789–1858), a Christian Missionary from the village Beer in Devon England, arrived in the Eastern Cape from Britian and settled in Salem (peace) near Grahamstown, in South Africa. He was a devout Christian from the Quaker church and was known for his heroic act of saving Salem from Xhosa warriors, riding out to meet them unarmed. He succesfully negotiated with them, and Salem was saved from ever being attacked again, or their cattle stolen. Although the picture of Gush seems stern, he showed his Love for the LORD, and the people of South Africa, by building a church in Salem.
Quote:
"These events inspired Guy Butler to write Richard Gush of Salem, a play that was commissioned by the Cape Performing Arts Board in 1968 for performance in 1970 as part of the celebrations of 150th anniversary of the 1820 Settlers' arrival. It was subsequently made into a movie.
Gush was a carpenter and built Salem's first church. Only after building the church did he build his house: indeed he and his family lived in a cave for their first seven years in South Africa.
A sports house at Westering High School, Port Elizabeth is named in his honour.

"PUT ON THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD" Ephesians 6:10-19
10 Finally my brethren, be strong in the lord and in the power of His might.
11 Put on the whole armour of GOD, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.
13 Therefore take up the whole armour of GOD, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all to stand.
14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness,
15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gosple of peace;
16 above all, taking the shield of faithwith which youwill be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one,
17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of GOD;
18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, beingwatchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints -
19 and for me, that utterance may be given to me, that i may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel.

Quote:
“Bishop Webb granted the collegiate church a coat of arms and seal on 3 April 1894. The seal is in the form of a vesica – a double-pointed oval, well suited to ecclesiastical arms as they can comfortably contain a shield in the lower half and a mitre in the upper.
The original of this document was lost when the church building was destroyed by fire in 1895, and a duplicate deed of grant was made the following year by Bishop Webb and signed on 4 March 1896….
St Mary’s, the first Anglican church erected in what came to be called the Eastern Province of the Cape Colony, was founded in 1825 by the Rev Francis McCleland, an Irish 1820 Settler who in that year was appointed Colonial Chaplain to the settlement of some 500 people.
The Irish settlers had initially been sent to live at Clanwilliam, some 200 km north of Cape Town, on the grounds that the volatile Irish were likely to clash violently with the other settlers. However, they had felt isolated in that environment and requested permission to join the English, Welsh and Scottish settlers in the Eastern Cape…..

The Snowman (42) Algoa Bay Port Elizabeth

mizzlizz.wikispaces.com/.../snowman.jpg
THE SNOWMAN
To children he brings laughter and pleasure and delight,
For when the snow starts falling and the world is dazzling white
little hands get busy piling up the frozen stuff
to build a friendly snowman who is NEVER big enough!
A very happy fellow with a tummy to his knees
and arms that would give gentle hugs (although you’d surely freeze)!
A carrot stuck on for a nose and pebbles for a smile;
A hat – some gloves – a walking stick – to give him plenty style.
It’s seldom in our sun-baked land that we will have the chance
to build our own dear snow-man, and round about him dance;
But snow falls very quickly in icy, northern lands
and soon a snowman will take shape from many eager hands.
He likes the bitter weather and the chilling winter blast,
The colder that he’s feeling, the longer he will last;
But when the sun starts shining (it’s sad but we all know)
The jolly (short-lived) snowman soon becomes just melted snow!

Christmas (11) Algoa Bay Port Elizabeth
CHRISTMAS (11)
Christmas is a time of joy
For every single girl and boy,
It’s time when delicious cakes are made,
It’s time when there’s lots of lemonade.
The Christmas tree is brightly lit
with lots of coloured things on it,
The Christmas crackers make a lot of noise
And it’s lovely to get a lot of toys.
The parcels are arranged around the tree
for every single one to see,
Christmas cards stand on the shelf
with one or two just for myself.
But best of all on Christmas morn,
It was the day when Christ was born,
It was the day He lay in the hay,
And that’s why we remember Christmas Day.

My Own Room (11) Algoa Bay Port Elizabeth

(Vintage Child's Room from Country Living)
MY OWN ROOM
I wish I had my own room
For that would surely be,
A lot of fun and happiness
And merriness, you see.
I wish I had my own room
Because it would be fun,
For no more fighting would be heard,
But cheerfulness begun.
I wish I had my own room
For writing stories and poems,
But when you’re sharing a room
It’s just MOANS, MOANS, MOANS!
I wish I had my own room
to sit there all the day,
I would write my stories
instead of going to play.
I wish I had my own room,
It would be tidy, of course,
But when your sister hits you,
you shed those tears of remorse.
I wish I had my own room,
But wishes never come true,
I suppose I’ll have to wait,
and bear it all quite through.

Prince Albert Algoa Bay Port Elizabeth

Quote
"None of you can ever be proud enough of being the child of Such a Father who has not his equal in this world -- so great, so good, so faultless. Try, all of you, to follow in his footsteps and don't be discouraged, for to be really in everything like him none of you, I am sure, will ever be. Try, therefore, to be like him in some points, and you will have acquired a great deal."

St. George's Park is surrounded now by a circular drive with concrete development, a far cry from what it was then. The Temple Mount where the Third Temple will be built in Jerusalem

This picture shows the area where the Second Temple stood which was destroyed by the Romans. Biblical Prophecy indicates that the Third Temple will be built on this original location and already the prophecy is beginning to manifest in Israel's Capital, Jerusalem! The corner stones are ready, including the plans for the structure, and all the Temple utensils exist for use by the High Priests.

The Most Advanced Watches in the World

Picture downloaded from blog.watch-inc.com/2006/12/
Quote from the same source
"The Swiss watch and clock industry in fact began in Geneva in the middle of the 16th century. In 1541, reforms implemented by Jean Calvin and banning the wear of jewels, forced Geneva’s renowned goldsmiths and jewellers to turn to a new, independent craft : watchmaking. By the end of the century, Genevan watches were already reputed for their high quality.
In 1790, Geneva was already exporting more than 60,000 watches a year. The mass production of watches began at the turn of the 20th century, thanks research and new technologies introduced by reputed watchmakers. The increase in productivity, the interchangeability of parts and standardisation progressively led the Swiss watch industry to its world supremacy.

BOAC - British Overseas Air Corporation

The BOAC was the National carrier for Britain which eventually paved the way for the newly born South African Airways. In this picture you see the markings of BOAC, and SAA, painted on the fuselage of a "Comet" aircraft, an aircraft which sadly never really proved itself airworthy at that time.

Boeing 727 returning with passangers to PE, the "Friendly City", after the holidays in Cape Town. All of us remember with pride the old South African Airways of the 70's. This was one of the best Airlines in the world, including Africa, and had a spotless reputation for its service to the people who bought tickets, and their safety.

Storms River Bridge Environs Port Elizabeth

Post Card
The Storms River Bridge is a spectacular structure bridging a huge chasm that would otherwise have been almost insurmountable to the traveller. It reminds me of issues in life where, without social bridges, we are unable to move forward. But the Storms River Bridge has a dark side too. Said to be in an area where covens operate, many depressed people find their way there and commit suicide by jumping over the side of the bridge. A phone has been erected to help people, who consider this as a way out of their problems,to phone a Life Line counsellor. I have been told that the last count of victims was over seventy. A lot of Christian activity also takes place here, and Christians from various churches have even erected a Cross on one side on the hill reminding the mentally ill that there is hope in JESUS.

Plant a Tree in Israel

Quote John Hagee Ministries
The Lord declared in Isaiah 41:19-20, "I will plant in the wilderness the cedar and the acacia tree, the myrtle and the oil tree; I will set in the desert the cypress tree and the pine and the box tree together, that they may see and know, and consider and understand together, that the hand of the LORD has done this, and the Holy One of Israel has created it."
At the time that this prophecy was written, Israel had not yet become the parched and barren land it eventually became after the destruction of the Second Temple and the dispersion of the Jews who had been the faithful stewards of the land. However, the Lord knew what was coming and had already promised restoration. Only God can cause the desert to bloom. But we, the spiritual children of Abraham, can lend our support through a sustained program of tree planting in Israel.
John Hagee Ministries is participating in a project called "Plant Your Roots in Israel." This campaign has the central goal of planting one million trees in Israel to help revitalize the land!
Planting a tree is more than mere aesthetics. It is an opportunity to help:
Transform barren regions of the Negev desert into fruitful, productive land
Create jobs
Provide needed irrigation
Sustain the local economy
As you can see, planting trees is a great way to express your love and support for Israel and make a real difference in the Holy Land.
Each donation of $35 plants a tree in Israel and contributes to a unique water conservation project in the Negev desert. With each donation you will receive one 'Plant Your Roots in Israel' certificate.
You can plant as many trees as you would like! A program is also available for those of you who want to plant on a monthly basis.
God bless you as you consider purchasing trees for Israel. As you picture in the theater of your mind the beautiful landscape of Israel draped with trees, know that you have helped transform this once barren land. Know that "the hand of the Lord has done this and the Holy One of Israel has created it," but the Lord has used you to help make it all possible.
