The Flood (11)

(East London – 1970)

The spotted dog barked, `Yelp, yelp, yelp’
People on rooves cried, “Help!”
For God was showing His mighty power
by sending this terrifying shower.

Those dreadful floods were rising high,
And rain kept falling from the sky,
Water kept coming through the door,
And soon it had covered the whole lounge floor.

The bridge had broken by the rain,
And the rain kept falling again and again;
Subways were blocked and cars were lost,
Think of what all this would cost.

Helicopters were flying around
Making the most noisy sound,
Rubbish was washed up on the beach,
Which was almost out of reach.

This flood had lasted for four days
And it was lovely to see the sun’s rays,
The birds began to sing their song,
I wonder where they had been so long?

The country-side was looking green again,
From all this nasty, damaging rain,
The dams were full and the bridge was mended,
And thinking of it now, it wasn’t very splendid.
